There are 5 power modes:
- On – Continuous duration for power and ignition on/high. Full device communication.
- Pre-standby – 5 minutes (default) duration immediately after ignition off/low. Quick start time delay of 4-10 seconds. Allows communication with the device.
- Standby – 2hrs (default) after the pre-standby time (default 5 min) has elapsed. Then start delay of 30-40 seconds. Allows communication with the device.
- Deep sleep – Continuous after standby time has elapsed (default 2hrs). Device is in an off mode until an ignition on/high is detected, then cold start delay of 30-40 seconds. No device communication is possible.
- Off/disconnect – Device is powered by a super capacitor for up to 30 seconds to manage the shutdown process and report its state and GPS coordinates.

Notes:
- Although the Pre-standby and Standby mode durations are configurable, it is advisable to consider these default values as the minimum and only increase them as required.
- Reducing these default values can result in the MVR going into deep sleep mode if the ignition is cycled multiple times within the Standby period.
- There is programmed logic to cover the following:
- If a unit powers up from deep sleep and, after boot is complete, finds that the ignition has been turned off, then the assumption is that this is a result of the driver turning ignition on then off quickly. It is assumed that the driver is not going anywhere, so there is no trip to record and since the unit was in deep sleep, it should probably go back to deep sleep.
- In some cases, a driver gets into the vehicle and switches the ignition on, and then off as they have forgotten something, only to come back shortly afterwards to start the vehicle. In this instance, going back to deep sleep is not ideal.
- If the Auto Power control is enabled, and the Battery Energy quota is exceeded or the Battery Charge Threshold falls the below the set voltage, the MVR will immediately go into a deep sleep mode. This is only applicable with the Ignition off.
- The configuration of the above power modes can be done in the Commissioning Utility > Settings > General menu, for the individual device. The Web support utility can be used to configure and update these setting for single and multiple devices.
